In Fall 2023, I (she/her) began my role as Assistant Professor of Experience Architecture in the Writing, Rhetoric, and Cultures Department at Michigan State University. I teach digital accessibility, data visualization, and user experience design, with special attention to design ethics and equity. In essence, I aim to help students make cool technological stuff, without hurting anyone or anything.
My examines how expertise is framed and enacted through user experience design, such as misleading data visualizations about COVID-19, project management, instructor feedback on resumes and cover letters, audience co-creation in public service announcements, and the content strategy of Southeastern state health departments. Some of my work on data visualizations, preventive health behaviors, and feedback in technical communication courses has appeared in the Journal of Business and Technical Communication, IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, and Business and Professional Communication Quarterly.
Outside of academia, I serve as an assistant editor for Luna Station Quarterly, a science fiction and fantasy magazine by women-identifying writers.
